Meaning of DOT

DOT (US Department of Transportation), as a functional department of the US government, is mainly responsible for formulating, developing and improving laws and regulations related to traffic and transportation, and making a series of regulations on various means of transportation and dangerous goods to enter the United States to meet the needs of the environment and national defense.

Definition of Aerosol Can

Aerosol cans are common containers, according to the provisions of the United States 49 CFR, the common aerosol cans are DOT 2P and 2Q specification containers, are disposable (non-refillable) metal containers, the material must be seamless or jointed, welded, welded, brazed, double seam or inclined seam.  The material is black iron, electroplated tinplate (tin plating), hot dip tinplate, lead-plated thin iron plate, or other non-ferrous metal of stamped grade.  If it is a plastic aerosol can, it is DOT 2S. At the same time, it also allows the deformation of DOT 2P1 and DOT 2Q1, which have the same other requirements as standard DOT 2P or 2Q aerosol cans, except that the side seam and side treatment of the product are different. If the aerosol cans exceeds the above specifications, it is a non-DOT specification product and needs to apply for a Special Permit from DOT.
