Biology & Technology - Development and future of personal care aerosols Apr 19, 2024

There are many factors that influence our biology: lifestyle, nutrition, sun exposure, pollution, hormones, personal care products, medications, region, gender, age, race, genetics, and a wide variety of other factors that have not been vigorously studied. Broadly speaking, these categories influence how we think about the efficacy of the products we use. We can also feel the great advances in biology and technology, and this blog focuses on four specific topics: Biohacking, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Epigenetics, and the Microbiome.

Biohacking

Biohacking is an experiment that uses tools such as technology, medical interventions, nutrition, practices, and chemicals to try to improve physical and mental conditions. In short, how to be the best Superman. It is often referred to as a "hack" that improves sleep, athletic ability, diet, or appearance. Examples include taking cold showers or using skin care products that contain plant stem cells, all of which have a variety of benefits.

In terms of personal care, according to recent studies of facial massage, fabric penetration, and cold therapy, these biohacking methods have proven to be effective. In one study, a 3D computed tomography (CT) scanner was used to scan the state of each participant's face before and after a facial massage, after which the face was lifted and tightened.

The development of aerosol products for use with hands and tools during massage

is in demand in this relatively untapped market segment.

AI

Some personal care companies complement their product lines with advanced technology. Ninu Perfume, for example, is an AI-powered app that offers more than 100 different scents to choose from in a single spray bottle, with scents that can vary depending on the time of day, weather, and user preferences.Ai Display Spray products can showcase cutting-edge products by providing customizable products, analytics, virtual trials, or intelligent algorithms.

La Roche-Posay Spotscan is a free tool that performs a precision analysis of the skin to assess facial acne and then recommends products from the La Roche-Posay family based on the facial analysis. Its AI uses thousands of acne samples from different ethnic groups, allowing it to analyze a wide variety of participants.

Epigenetics

Epigenetics is the study of organ changes caused by alterations in gene expression rather than changes in DNA sequence. Behavior, environment, medicine, aging, diet, and development all influence health endpoints. Epigenetic mechanisms include DNA methylation, histone modification, chromatin remodeling, and non-coding RNA. An easy way to understand epigenetics is through the analogy of Musical Instruments - the body is a piano, DNA is the keys, and epigenetics is the fingers that play the keys. A man may have keys on his piano, but will his fingers pop out? Epigenetics is simply an expression of these genes, not a change in DNA(piano keys).

Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have revealed genetic factors and single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associated with various traits. Studies have found that SNPs are associated with wrinkles, pigmentation, elasticity, sensitivity, oil content, and hydration. The idea behind these SNPs is based on genotypic information. The genotype or genetic information from DNA that is labeled in GWAS is related to the phenotype, which is the appearance. These studies have enabled spray formulators to target certain people's genes to create targeted products related to their appearance.

Microbiome

Studying the microbiome is not entirely complicated, although the study of the human microbiome is still in its infancy. A new spray product should focus on keeping probiotics in a healthy balance rather than creating an ecological imbalance. Although many factors may potentially, to some extent, affect the activity of microorganisms in the body, such as pH, temperature, UV exposure, changes in salinity and water content in the skin, some of these factors must be taken into account when formulating.

So far, science has shown the relationship between the microbiome, skin conditions, and aging. For example, Staphylococcus hominis is more common in people with smaller pores and a well-functioning skin barrier. This particular species produces antimicrobial peptides that show activity against the disease-causing bacterium Staphylococcus aureus.

There are many more connections to be made in the microbiome, and there are endless opportunities to take advantage of this growing science. In addition, we are already working to meet the needs of the microbiome, starting with Ph-friendly products.

We can see a large influx of products in the spray market that consider microbiome related aspects. For example, there is a probiotic foot spray that uses lactobacillus fermentation to eliminate odors. Another example is phage serums, which target acne-causing bacteria (Bacillus acnes) by reducing their population size and biofilm. These are just a few of the revolutionary products on the market that fight problems like odors caused by destructive bacteria or acne. Since there are few products in this area, aerosols can easily move further into the field to provide other effective products for the scalp, face, and body.
